Talat Aziz: Adapting to Digital Broadcasting During the Pandemic

Ghazal maestro Talat Aziz, known for his ever-positive and optimistic outlook, has a unique perspective on the challenges brought by the pandemic. Reflecting on the events of 2020, he shares, "Last year was and will remain a defining year not just for me but for the entire world. A famous thinker once said that the person or species most likely to survive a natural calamity is not the strongest, but the one most capable of adapting to changing environments and circumstances. That’s what I believe too.

Like many other sectors, the music industry was deeply affected by the pandemic. However, just as other industries adapted to new realities, so did the world of music. "When the pandemic took all of us by surprise, it was difficult to comprehend what one could do. I realized that adaptation was key and that the online platform was the only viable solution. For music, becoming self-sufficient and using systems and techniques to reach audiences through the internet became essential," he explains.

Talat Aziz took on the challenge head-on, seeking the expertise of one of India’s top sound engineers, Mr. Damania, to learn the basics of broadcasting from home. Utilizing the latest tools and techniques in online music production, he was able to continue sharing his music with his audience, demonstrating resilience and adaptability in the face of unprecedented circumstances. This adaptation mirrors the way music producers have also had to embrace new technologies and methods to connect with their audiences during these times, much like Brian Silas and his online performances during lockdown.
